Artist's Description

'Fear of Distractions' is part of a brand new series entitled, 'Fear of Idleness', all five are oil on linen, 22"x18". The centerpiece which share the title of the series was decided to be a granite blue grey entity or suggested abstract sculpture, vertically centered on the canvas, surrounded by white bleeding off on both sides. This one, 'Fear of Distractions', was to be its opposite. Then it was decided that the dark sides would be a warm alizarin crimson black. An earlier painting came to mind from my series, Oil Sketches, suggesting a female a la Dita, the character the original was inspired by, so with Distractions I re-explored a feminine spirit in the piece.
Singer/songwriter John Cale in 1974 sang, Fear's a Man's Best Friend, and in 1990 inspired me to tackle five small paintings bearing "Fear" in their titles. Ritchard Rodriguez

Ritchard Rodriguez was born and raised in New York City, studied art at NY’s School of Visual Arts under mentors Gilbert L. Stone and Jonathan Borofsky, migrated once west to Aspen Colorado for two years where he was invited to exhibit for the very first time (at its Jerome Gallery), then east to Berlin, Hamburg and Paris for a duration of eight years. There he was represented by art dealers Michel Ozenne in Paris and Jan de Maere in Brussels who, aside from granting him a solo show in Paris’ first arrondissement, would also include him in the FIAC at the Grand Palais and the Auction House Elkaim, L’Isle-Adam. “I was a realist for a good fifteen years, trained in the ways of the old masters by the late Gilbert Stone, primarily...
